AB Hsieh is a conceptual photographer based in Northern California, whose work has been exhibited in the United States and France, notably in Cape Cod and Paris. Exploring themes of loss, melancholy, death and reconception, they combine analogue and digital photography with sculptural set-ups to give physical form to the inner states associated with grief and transformation.
Returning to Château Saint-Pierre de Mejans for their residency, they will create a new series of conceptual photographs centred on the silkworm’s life cycle and the silk-making process. Inspired by the estate’s historical ties to sericulture and the silent majesty of its 12th-century priory, their project explores the cocoon as a visceral metaphor for mortality, confinement and rebirth to come.
