Château Saint-Pierre de Mejans, a 12th Century Priory built by the Benedictine monks, offers a peaceful,
calm environment amidst the olive trees and vines, which is ideal place for creative souls to express
themselves in any art form – writing, painting, sculpting, photography, etc..
The owners of the Château, Jean-Marc and Wendy Gobbi, are patrons of the arts and founding members
of Mécènes du Sud, an association dedicated to promoting the arts in the region. The gardens of the
chateau houses many different art sculptures from both local and international artists and are a reflection of
their commitment to the Arts. As an extension of their desire to promote artists, they have decided to offer
an Artist in Residency program at the Chateau.
The Chateau is located in Puyvert, a small town 2 km from the charming tourist town of Lourmarin in
the south of France.
The programme is designed as follows:
Who: Any artist or writer can apply, beginner or experienced, for the 1-3 week stay (from November to March)
Offer: A private one-bedroom apartment with kitchen and living room.
Cost: 300 euros per week includes lodging, access to the chateau common rooms and gardens, private
kitchen. Meals and airfare are not included.
How to apply: Online application here
Applications are accepted year-round and all applicants will be notified of the commission’s decision.
Nearby the chateau, there is a supermarket, restaurants, and lots of local activities and cultural visits to
enjoy. The program is designed for one person but if you are applying for your spouse or partner to join
you, please note this in your proposal and it will be reviewed. The additional cost for a spouse/partner
would be 300 euros per week.
We do not have a private car for loan but we do have bicycles on site which can be used by guests as they
please. There is a heated swimming pool on site, petanque court, hens, olive trees, vegetable garden, olive
orchard and almost 30 acres of vines. Artists will have access to all the common areas of the chateau such as
the kitchen, living room, chapel and courtyard.
Benoit, the Chateau Manager, lives on site and can help you with any activities or visits you would like to
organize. He speaks English and French and is a great resource for our guests and will help make you feel
at home in the chateau.
At the end of the residency, if so desired, we can organize a reading or art exhibit on our property.
We kindly request that if your art allows, that you offer one art piece to the chateau art collection to
commemorate your stay with us.
We look forward to receiving applications from all art disciplines and will review each request with
attention and dedication. While we can only accept 1-3 artists per year, we are thrilled to open our doors
to new creative endeavors and help promote creativity in our world community.
